A SEPERATE REVIEW OF SILENT SCOPE
COMPLETE. TITLE? WHAT ABOUT IT?

All right, just for the sake of seperation, I've provided
a seperate review for Silent Scope Complete for XBox. Silent Scope Complete
is a compilation of every Silent Scope game made, although not necessarily
the 'ultimate' collection (but pretty damn close.) So in case you need
me to spell it out, it has SS 1, 2 (insert your region's subtitle here),
the homeport exclusive of 3, and EX.
Sounds great so far, but the biggest feature here is the Pelican Sniper Rifle. Yes that's right, there is now a lightgun for your very own home use. No more bastardized homeports. You can also use another generic lightgun (like Madcatz), but using a pistol to imitate a sniper rifle isn't the same thing. However, a lot of people report trouble getting the rifle working on their TV. Lightgun trouble with giant TV's, LCD screens and whatnot is normal, but even normal TV's for us broke fellows are trouble. Mine works, but only after adjusting the brightness (on the actual game, thankfully) to the max. So I get to play with a fucking white tint on my screen, but at least it actually isn't too bothersome since the settings are mostly bright. The game is smart enough to switch back to non-white mode for cutscenes and non-shooting segments like menus, so at least you only suffer when it's necessary. Now, as for the actual rifle itself... It's not made by Konami, but by Pelican. Unfortunately, third-party lightguns are always suspect. SEGA, Namco, Konami, and even Nintendo (for Duckhunt) made their own guns, and they all were good. However, when guns are made by another company, the quality drops dramatically. When third-party games are made for a specific game though (such as the Madcatz blaster for THOTD3), the quality is much higher, though still not perfect like a first-party. See the lightgun article for the lowdown on the lightgun. So, are the actual games as good as ever? For the most part, yes. There is no 2-player ability in SS2, but other than that, the translation is complete. If you care to ask about the quality of the individual games, go look in their own reviews. Nothing else to say here. So, what's the bottom line? If you want to play Silent Scope at home, this is really the only way to go. And what a way to go; 4 games for the price of 1 (and nowadays it will probably be less than $20.) Of course, the gun will set you back about $50, which is more than the game, but that still comes out a pretty good deal. However, the gun does have a buyer's beware... I'm sorry I can't really help anymore than that; it all comes down to whether or not your TV is good. |
