RULES:
You proceed automatically through a level. Often times you will be constantly moving whether or not you are shooting people. Sometimes you'll stay in place for a while or may be required to eliminate someone (like a boss), but the point is you can't control your movement. The only time you can stop yourself from moving is being killed or shooting an innocent person. When you have your shield raised, you move slower as well. To complete an area, you simply have to reach an indicated point. At the end of each level is a boss who must be defeated though. To reload, raise your shield. Unlike other games, you reload bullets individually over time. Thus, it takes time to fully reload a clip. You are equipped with a shield to protect yourself. If you are about to be hit, raise it to avoid damage. If you need to reload, raise it and you'll load more ammo as long as it remains up. However, while the shield is raised, you move slower. To raise the shield, point the gun off the screen, and point it back at the screen to lower it. If you are injured, you get demoted, are detained, and lose a life. If you shoot an innocent person, you get demoted and are detained. There is a time limit. If you don't beat an area in the allotted time, you must continue. Powerups can be obtained. As far as I know, they are found by whacking certain enemies. They provide a small amount of extra firepower, but can't be reloaded. This game is a head-to-head contest to see who can finish an area quicker. If playing with another human, your opponent is the 2nd player, but if alone you will go against a computer controlled one whom you can choose between 4 of varying skill levels. The players move through each area independently based on their progress. Each player appears on the other's screen to provide a visual, and there's a timer which indicates how far ahead or behind you are. Whoever wins a level is promoted, although there is no penalty for the loser. POWERUPS: Revolver: Only available in Cops In The City. This is your default weapon in the level, so you can't lose it. It carries more bullets than the other handgun (he carries several apparently.) Handgun: The default handgun of every other level. You can't lose it. Submachine Gun: Fires bullets as long as the trigger is held down. Rifle: Fires bullets as long as the trigger is held down. It has a long clip. Shotgun: Fires a bunch of pellets rather than a bullet. The pellets spread out to cover a much larger area than any other weapon, making it possible to eliminate more than one person with one shot. Sniper Rifle: Provides a circular scope sight (ala Silent Scope home ports) that allows you to see way into the distance, allowing for accurate shots on faraway targets. However, this is a little funky to get used to (since you can't turn it on and off like SS) especially if you have closer enemies. However, it is found when there are foes who are almost impossible to hit without it. BAD GUYS: Generic: Most enemies use firearms to try to kill you. Their accuracy varies by person. Knife Guy: These fools carry knives and simply rush kamikazee-style (well, this is Japan) at you in an attempt to kill you. They won't miss, so be ready to do something if you see somebody (or several!) making a beeline for you. If you block them, they simply vanish. Projectile Thrower: Not very common. These guys hurl grenades, pipe bombs, or some other improvised explosives. Duck or blast their stuff. MY TIPS: Learn to pick out shots that will hit you. Most shots won't, and you'll be wasting lots of time if you duck whenever a bullet is fired. Remember, you don't instantly get a full clip upon ducking. However, you don't really need one as long as your aim is good. Also remember that there is no penalty for shooting your partner. Don't be afraid when he gets in your way. As a nice change of pace for Konami shooters, you have a very large amount of time so don't feel like you have to go fast. The only time I ever got low was during a boss fight. As long as you don't duck everytime someone fires, you'll be good. ABOUT THIS GUIDE: This is a very straightforward game, much like the previous 2. As a result, the only thing there really is to cover is where the powerups are. Only a few situations call for some strategy. CHEATS/UNLOCKABLES: Free Sample!: Simply press the start button on the machine when there's no money and you'll get to play a brief demo in a shooting gallery. It goes for a short while or until you get shot. You'll have to wait for a minute or two before playing another demo. You could practice for free you cheapskate. Play as female: Feeling gypped that there's a woman on the title screen but can't play as one? Well, you clearly don't know the SECRET CODE! First, wait if needed until the aforementioned screen (in case you don't know, it's the one with LETHAL ENFORCERS 3 and all the law members on it.) Now, pull the trigger 11 times. Then pull it once more, and HOLD IT DOWN as you press start. This all has to be done on the title screen. |
